Alumni Weekend Cancellation

Leadership Georgia Alumni,

Much has evolved on the world, federal, and state levels concerning the COVID-19 virus since our Athens Program.  Needless to say, this pandemic is impacting our daily lives and routines more than any of us anticipated.  Since we parted ways in Athens, President Trump has declared a National State of Emergency and Governor Kemp has declared a Public Health Emergency for Georgia.  Numerous measures are being employed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, one of which is social distancing.  One aspect of this strategy is the call for large gatherings to be cancelled or postponed.  The CDC has recommended cancelling all meetings of greater than 50 people for the next 8 weeks. As you all are aware, our next program is scheduled for April 30-May 2 which falls within that 8 week window.

With that in mind and with great consideration and sadness, it pains me to announce that we will have to postpone the St. Marys/Jekyll Program as well as Alumni Weekend and LG Play.  I am not only sad for the 2020 class, but also for the Program Chairs – the Sawhills, Floyds, and Chitwoods. They have put in countless hours of hard work to give the Class of 2020 and our alumni and their families an incredible experience on Georgia’s coast.

We are looking into the possibilities for rescheduling at least a portion of the program in some form later in the year.  What that might look like and when or if that happens remains to be seen as this situation is fluid.  It seems new restrictions and projections of the duration of the pandemic come out daily.  We will be in communication with you when we determine what our next step forward will be.

If you have registered and paid for the program your money will be refunded.  If you have made reservations with the hotel, you will need to cancel those reservations yourself.

Thank you for your understanding during these strange times.  Leadership Georgia is important to all of us, but the health of our communities, state, and nation is certainly our highest concern.

Best,

Charlie May
Leadership Georgia 2020 President
